TikTok vs The Moral Police of India

This blog is going to get us in trouble with many people, but that's the nature of truth.

So #TikTok The Social Media disruptor has been removed from Google playstore and Apple app store in India. That’s the current scenario as the case goes on in Chennai high court. So what does the order say, well I will just copy paste what the crew at Internet freedom foundation wrote (also we love their work and completely and totally support them!)

"The first direction prohibits the download of the application, the second prohibits the television telecast of videos created through it and the third directs a response from the Union Government on it’s position to legislate a statute analogous to the Children Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)."

While we all are on board with ensuring that children should be safe, internet technology is a reality in our lives and lives of our children. The primitive methodology of banning sadly does not work well in our modern connected times. Hence a smarter methodology is to work together with tech platforms ensuring their community guidelines are as per the law of the land and also the guidelines are implemented proactively by the platforms.

As we stand all of us are looking forward to a progressive constructive outcome of this case.
